If you are setting up an event, or need simply want an outdoor projection screen for a small backyard theater you have several choices. Two of which are the inflatable projector screen, and the Fast-Fold projection screen. Each has their advantages and disadvantages which I will get into in this article.
Speed Of Setup
Fast-fold projection screens have the edge here. The speed at which inflatable projector screens can inflate varies. Some inflatable projector screens can inflate in a few minutes, some can take much longer, even though the display size may not be too big. There can also be some extra setup required with inflatable screens requiring you to use your toolkit, fast-fold projection screens can be setup without tools. Fast-fold screens make for quick setup. The Viewing Area
I would have to give this to Da-Lite Fast-Fold projection screens. The reason for this is that with a Fast-Fold display you can unbutton and swap the surface for different situations. With an inflatable movie screen that is typically not the case. This also means that if the display gets ruined on a Fast-fold you can simply swap the screen out or use a repair kit. You can also change the display material for different viewing angles and lighting situations. Edge: Fast-Fold
Sound Setup
Some inflatable screens have included speakers making for easy setup. This is not a feature of all inflatable movie screens, but with a Fast-Fold setup you will always need to have extra speakers around if you need audio. If no speakers are around with a Fast-Fold you will need a portable audio kit. Edge: Inflatables
Screen Size
Inflatable projection screens can be massive in size. Some of the largest projector screens in the world are inflatables. If you need a massive 30' display to for an event you will probably want to go with an inflatable. Fast-fold screens simply do not get nearly as large. Price
Some inflatable projection screens are available at a very low price. Typically you get what you pay for, but there are some excellent values. Fast-fold screens typically cost a fair amount. You can pick up a cheap inflatable projector screen for around 0. A Da-Lite fast-fold projection display will likely run you at least twice that for even a desktop version. Edge: Inflatables
Quality
The Da-lite company is known for producing high quality projector screens. With inflatable projection screens the quality varies. High-quality inflatable projector screens do exist, but you will need to search around for them. Edge: Fast-Fold
